Roofing Nail Tariff News [5/23 UPDATE]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Roofing Nail Tariff Update
May 23, 2019

 Dear Valued Customer;

“The Section 301 Tariff increase to 25% (from 10%), that had been postponed from January 1, 2019, has now implemented.”

Many customers have contacted CMI asking about how we will be handling the newly increased tariff on their CMI nail and accessory orders that have not yet arrived from China. Hopefully we can clear up any misunderstanding of this situation as follows:

On May 10, 2019, the office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) implemented the previously delayed 15% increase in tariff for the Section 301 List 3 goods. The total tariff on those listed items is now 25%.  There is some confusion regarding the effective date of May 10, 2019 as announced.  May 10th is the effective date but only for shipments leaving China as of that day. If a shipment left prior and arrives by May 31, 2019, it will still be assessed at the 10% tariff rate that was implemented on September 24, 2018.

As you know, CMI is extremely transparent on the treatment of tariffs. Unlike many companies that put it in the price, we give you the tariff amount, which is calculated only on the FOB value of the merchandise.

Please be advised that any shipments that have a Bill of Lading (BOL) date of May 10, 2019 or later, or arrive in the US on or after June 1, 2019, regardless of BOL date, will now include a charge to cover the full 25% tariff until such time as there is a change and a notice from the USTR on this matter.

Thank you for your continued support, and please feel free to call us if you have any questions at all.
