Roofing Nails – Ocean Freight and Policy Information

Roofing Nails – Ocean Freight and Policy Information

May 13, 2024

Dear Valued Customer,

To our valued customers:

Many of our customers may have of recently heard of ocean freight increases or been impacted by what has been going on with ocean freight beginning in the first quarter of 2024. Many importers, that have no investment in their own supply chain or do not have staffing on the ground to manage their nail business, can easily quote low numbers as they have done in the past. The same dynamics are now in play; based on the current announced ocean freight increases, if their freight numbers don’t work out, they will not ship those orders and once again distributors will be left receiving late nail shipments.

To help combat the situation and provide a playing field which allows our customers to assess their costs and make the best decisions to run their business CMI has now implemented a revised Ocean Freight Policy.  Due to the continued volatility of the freight market, and until freight rates settle into a more normal state, we will begin immediately providing the freight rate that was used when calculating you nail quotes. If the freight varies more than +/- 3% we will be charging any excess as a freight surcharge on the order, or issue a credit for the lower difference. Remember, the quote will have the freight rate used at time of quotation for comparison.

Please let us know if you have any question on the mechanics of this policy.

Thank you for your continued support.
