Nail Supply Update

As leaders in the supply of roofing nails CMI has a commitment and obligation to keep our customers informed of market and supply issues that may affect their businesses. As you know we have already made sure our customers are being kept up to date on the recent run-up in steel prices and freight that that is driving significant delivered cost increases.
Nail supply has been previously delayed by the Chinese government’s mandated temporary shutdowns of nail galvanizing/plating lines in early summer. Most of the backlog of orders had finally worked its way through the system. These private galvanizing lines supply all of the nail production plants, so most likely our competitors were effected as well.
There has now been a second forced shutdown of these lines by the Chinese government as an additional pollution control measure (along with other types of manufacturing processes) and is expected to run for two weeks. This again has stifled production at the nail plants, including ours, that must wait for the roofing nails to be plated before they can be collated. Unfortunately, this shutdown will cause delays in shipments that are unavoidable.
