CMI SecureGrip25 has been tested and certified through third party testing agency to meet the new ASTM D8257 – Standard Specification for Mechanically Attached Polymeric Roof Underlayment Used in Steep Slope Roofing. This standard is the new ASTM specification that was ratified only months ago.
CMI is the first company with Intertek to have been certified and we are very likely the first in the country.
ASTM has taken a handful of years to develop this specification just for synthetic underlayments. The majority of the specifications used to quantify underlayments up to this point have been organic felt specifications as that was the only parallel available. ASTM D8257 specifically addresses the rigid requirements of a “good synthetic” and includes a measure of weatherability. The weatherability is testing to ensure the product will perform even after exposed to the elements for a prescribed period of time.
Testing weatherability gives more “real world” context to a product’s performance and those with very high regrind content may have difficulty passing this rigorous standard.
This standard is very new and as code bodies begin to adopt its use it will become the new requirement to sell and promote synthetic underlayments. You can be assured CMI SecureGrip25 has already been certified by a third party lab to meet this new stringent standard and is ready to perform.
