TARIFF UPDATE – ROOFING NAILS, PLASTIC CAP NAILS and STAPLES WILL BE AT 60% TARIFF AFTER MARCH 12TH ARRIVALS.
Dear Valued Customer,
As we have shared over the last weeks, new and/or additional tariffs on many products entering the United States from other countries have been announced and also implemented.
On 2/1/25 President Trump announced new tariffs of 25% for most products from Mexico and Canada (which have now been delayed by 30 days), and an additional 10% for most products from China and other countries, on top of the previous 25% 301 tariffs on steel products from China.
Tariff Update Announcement
President Trump has announced changes to the current tariff policy on many products coming into the US. Regarding nails and steel products from China, all products coming into the US from China had previously been subject to a 25% tariff, and that cost has been included in your China nail pricing since those tariffs were implemented several years ago.
Another new round of 232 tariffs was announced on February 12, 2025. We have now seen specific items that would be affected, and there are additional items added to the current tariff list and additional tariffs for those items previously impacted by tariffs. Therefore, including these most changes to Harmonized Tariff codes that include roofing nails from China the previous 25% (since last tariff) plus the additional new China-wide tariff of 10% will be applied in addition to the newest 25%.
How to plan?
Existing Tariffs (pre-2/1/25): The cost of any tariffs implemented prior to February 1, 2025, is already included in the quoted price of your orders.
New Tariffs (post-2/1/25): Any new tariffs or tariff increases announced on or after February 1, 2025, will be added as a separate line item to open quotes and your invoice, and labeled “Tariff”. This will ensure complete transparency regarding the additional cost due to tariff changes. New tariffs will be applicable based on the date the material clears U.S. Customs regardless of order date or date of shipment.
NEW Tariffs (post-3/12/25): There has been a new 25% tariff announced for the Section 232 items that effects all countries. This is not a new tariff, but it removes all exemptions so any of this material, no matter the country of origin, coming into the US is subject to this newest addition of 25%.
Going Forward
We will continue to provide updates regarding this evolving tariff situation. In the spirit of transparency, we will continue to quote all tariff-applicable items with the existing tariff included. As any future/additional tariffs are implemented on these orders, they will be added as a separate line item when invoiced.
This is an ever-evolving event that will continue to be challenging, and we will make all efforts to bring you additional information as soon as possible so that you can manage your business and expectations. All material in transit will be subject to these most recent changes. Final details will continue to be evaluated, but please factor this potential additional cost into decisions you may need to make to manage your business and your customer’s expectations.
We plan to keep you apprised and provide the formal US Government – CBP announcements as they are published and become available. Please call us with any questions you may have.
