February 2025 Tariff Update
Dear Valued Customer,
As previously shared in December 2024, new and/or additional tariffs on many products entering the United States from other countries are expected in early 2025.
On 2/1/25 President Trump announced new tariffs of 25% for most products from Mexico and Canada, and an additional 10% for most products from China, on top of the pre-existing 25% on steel products from China.
Tariff Update Announcement
President Trump has announced changes to the current tariff policy on many products coming into the US. Regarding nails and steel products from China, all products coming into the US from China had previously been subject to a 25% tariff, and that cost has been included in your pricing since those tariffs were implemented several years ago.
A new round of tariffs was announced on February 1, 2025. While we still don’t know the specific items that would be affected, there is a good chance that additional items could be added to the current tariff list and that there may be additional tariffs for those items already impacted by tariffs.
How to plan?
- Existing Tariffs (pre-2/1/25): The cost of any tariffs implemented prior to February 1, 2025, is already included in the quoted price of your orders.
- New Tariffs (post-2/1/25): Any new tariffs or tariff increases announced on or after February 1, 2025, will be added as a separate line item to open quotes and your invoice, and labeled “Tariff”. This will ensure complete transparency regarding the additional cost due to tariff changes. New tariffs will be applicable based on the date the material clears U.S. Customs regardless of order date or date of shipment.
Going Forward
We will continue to provide updates regarding this evolving tariff situation. In the spirit of transparency, we will continue to quote all tariff-applicable items with the pre-existing tariffs in place prior to 2/1/25 included. If any future/additional tariffs are implemented on these orders, they will be added as a separate line item when invoiced.
Final details are still being evaluated, but please factor this potential additional cost into decisions you may need to make to manage your business and customer expectations.
We plan to keep you apprised and provide the formal US Government – CBP announcement when it is published, this Federal Announcement will have the specific dates and product classes covered. Please call us with any questions you may have.
